The Akademi Seni Kebangsaan
is an institution of higher learning established in 1994 by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism. It offers full time or part time training programs leading to a Certificate, Diploma or Degree (Bachelor of Arts) in Performing Arts in:
- Writing
- Music
- Theatre
- Dance
The objective is to produce creative performers, to nuture artistic talent and develop leaders in the arts. This is to
ensure that Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage will continue to flourish from one generation to the next. Besides its commitment to preservation of the arts, The Akademi Seni Kebangsaan encourages new and innovative direction
in these areas and intends to place Malaysia firmly on the world stage. The objective of the Akademi Seni Kebangsaan is to provide an opportunity for Malaysians to obtain formal training in the arts and to serve as a center for
research and creative work in the country.
Apart from this, Akademi Seni Kebangsaan also organises programs such as:
- seminars and workshops by both local and foreign experts and academicians;
- collaborative programs in specific fields with local and foreign institutions of higher education.
Among the courses that have been offered are:
- script writing for stage drama
- script writing for television
- acting (basic, intermediate, advanced)
- appreciation of traditional music
- contemporary dance
- choreography
- make-up and costume
Akademi Seni Kebangsaan strives to produce creative performers and leaders in the arts by providing the students with
the best lecturers and teaching staff that are available in the country. As professionals they can assist in efforts to ensure the Malaysian Culture remains as the foundation for the arts industry of Malaysia.
