Court Dance
Court Dance began as entertainment for the Royal Households of Malaysia as such the style is very graceful and the movements are slow, sustained and controlled. Generally the eyes are slightly downcast as it was considered rude to look the Royalty in the eye. Many of these dances begin in a seated position on the floor and then slowly to a kneeling or standing position. These dances used to be performed primarily by the maidens and ladies-in-waiting of the Court. However today this dances are performed for the public in venues outside the palace such as theatres, corporate events, tourism projects and private functions. |
